Photography Fundraisers
Fundraising with Maggie King Photography
I’m passionate about giving back to my community, and sharing my photography talents is one of the many ways I like to contribute. In fact, 75% of my photoshoots are in partnership with one of the numerous organizations I support with photography services to help with fundraising. If you’re interested in learning how a photography fundraiser can help to raise money for your organization or favorite cause, let’s chat.
How does it work?
When I partner with an organization we discuss fundraising goals, then together we develop a fundraising plan. We determine the items to include and set prices for each. After the photoshoot the photos are posted in an online gallery allowing visitors to make purchases directly from the site. When the fundraiser concludes I provide a detailed report with a summary of each purchase, allocation of funds, and stats for gallery traffic and purchase trends to provide a 360-degree view into how the fundraiser performed. Then I deliver funds to the organization. I offer the organization full transparency on all aspects of the fundraiser, from start to finish.
What items are available for sale during a fundraiser?
I offer a variety of traditional and non-traditional photo products. Items include digital downloads, traditional prints in a variety of sizes, fine art prints and canvases, photo gifts (mugs, holiday ornaments, etc.), photo collages, posters, banners, and more. There are more than 100 items to choose from and I work with the organization to select the items that make the most sense for their audience.
How much money is typically raised?
This varies widely based on a number of factors… the duration of the fundraiser, the items selected, the price points of the items, the size of the audience, how vigorously the fundraiser is promoted — just to name a few. In terms of funds raised, the smallest fundraiser I’ve supported raised $200 (two weeks / prints and digitals only / promoted verbally to less than 25 people); while the largest was around $2,000 (one month / prints, digitals, and products / promoted via email to approximately 300 people).
What percentage goes to the organization?
This varies based on the organization, their goals, and our fundraising plan. The organization effectively determines the percentage since they help to determine price points for the items being sold. Generally, organizations receive between 15% - 25% of the sales.
So where does the rest of the money go?
A large percentage of funds are allocated to third parties to cover the following:
Processing fees for online payments
Sales tax
Base cost of the item being purchased
Lab fees and production costs
Shipping of products
How does Maggie King Photography benefit from fundraisers?
I offer organizations a flexible fee structure based on a percentage of sales or a flat rate for the engagement. When developing our fundraising plan, I work with the organization to determine the option that works best. The flexible fee structure ensures I’m able to cover the costs associated with my business, such as hosting online galleries, ecommerce software, photo editing software, and maintaining equipment so that I may continue supporting clients and partner organizations.
By focusing primarily on supporting organizations I’m able to grow my business while serving my community and maximizing the impact of my contributions to it. I strive, in business and in life, to pay it forward!
